WCs and Rim-ex
The hygiene technologies of VitrA WCs and how to care for them.
What is VitrA Rim-ex?
Rim-ex is VitrA's technology for rimless WCs. Water flushes the bowl in a circle and leaves no hard-to-reach places. According to our technologies page, Rim-ex gives 95% more hygiene, and it comes in a wide choice of designs.

How do I clean a Rim-ex WC?
According to VitrA, the Rim-ex pan diverter simply pulls out for cleaning and pushes back into place. To keep the VitrA Clean properties, wipe the bowl with a soft damp cloth. Ask our showroom how the diverter comes out on your model.

What is the difference between VitrA Clean and VitrA Hygiene?
Both are special treatments of the ceramic surface. Dirt and water come off a VitrA Clean surface easily, so it needs less cleaning product. VitrA Hygiene is an antibacterial surface: according to our technologies page, it means 99.9% fewer bacteria and keeps working for the product's whole life. The technology cards on each product page show which one a product has.

Why do brown or yellow stains appear in the WC?
According to VitrA, they are left over time by minerals in the water, and sometimes by debris from the installation. Regular cleaning prevents them, so don't leave a stain for long.
How do I remove a scratch from ceramics?
VitrA recommends a ceramic eraser for scratches that have not gone through the thin glaze layer. For a deeper scratch, contact us or visit our showroom.
How do I know whether a WC will fit my bathroom?
VitrA recommends checking the installation with an experienced installer or plumber before you buy. In our showrooms, VitrA designers will plan your bathroom in 3D; when you choose VitrA products, this service is free. Confirm the sizes and the type of installation with the showroom.

Why do the metal hinges of the seat rust?
According to VitrA, acidic cleaning products burn the surface of the hinges and spoil their anti-corrosion protection. Clean the seat and hinges with a damp cotton cloth and water or soapy water.
Concealed cisterns and flush plates
The strength of concealed cisterns, water use and choosing a flush plate.
How much weight can a concealed cistern frame carry?
The iron frame of VitrA concealed cisterns withstands up to 400 kg (VitrA Strong Support). It does not bend over the years and protects the wall and the ceramics from damage.
See in the catalogue
How much water does a flush use?
In VitrA concealed cisterns the flush volume can be set from 4 to 6 litres (VitrA Adjustable Flush), and the dual flush mechanism (VitrA Eco Flush) lets you choose a small or a full flush. The volume of each cistern is given in its product name.
See in the catalogue
How deep are concealed cisterns?
Our catalogue has cisterns of several depths: from slim 8 and 9 cm models to 13, 14, 15 and 20 cm, and a 26 cm back-to-back cistern. Some are floor-mounted, others are fixed to the floor and the wall. The depth is in each cistern's name; ask our showroom which one suits your wall.

Does every flush plate fit every cistern?
No. According to VitrA, what matters is the mechanism your cistern has: our catalogue has mechanical and pneumatic flush plates. Tell our showroom the model or code of your cistern and we will find the matching plate.

How do I clean the flush plate?
VitrA recommends a soft cloth and warm soapy water. The surface of VitrA flush plates resists scratches and wear (VitrA Premium Material), so they keep their shape and colour for years.

Taps and finish care
How to care for chrome, black, gold, copper and nickel taps.
How do I care for taps, especially black, gold and copper finishes?
VitrA recommends cleaning taps of every finish with a soft cloth and warm soapy water instead of liquid detergent. Avoid acidic cleaners: if a tile or basin cleaner gets on the tap, rinse it off at once. Water marks show more on dark surfaces, so regular cleaning matters most for them.
See in the catalogue
How durable are the coloured finishes of the taps?
VitrA taps are made of top-quality brass. For coloured surfaces VitrA uses its PVD technology, which is durable and protects against scratches, and a double-layer coating for matt finishes (VitrA Bright).

Why does bathroom ventilation matter?
According to VitrA, ventilation prevents steam and condensation from building up. This matters for the life of taps, furniture and mirrors, especially after a shower or after cleaning.
The tap handle is stiff. What should I do?
According to VitrA, dirt may have got into the ceramic cartridge, which may need replacing. Contact us and our showroom will tell you the service terms. VitrA taps have a Spanish ceramic cartridge (VitrA Core Tech), and every tap is tested for 2.1 million opening and closing cycles.

Why is a thermostatic mixer set to 38 degrees?
VitrA thermostatic mixers are set to 38 °C by default. The thermostat keeps the chosen temperature steady, even when another tap in the house is opened. The hot and cold supplies must be connected the right way round, or the thermostat will not work.

Furniture and mirrors
Caring for bathroom furniture and mirrors, load and compatibility.
How do I care for bathroom furniture?
VitrA recommends wiping furniture with a damp cloth only. Never wash it, because its core material is wood. Dry splashes promptly: a wet surface shortens the life of the furniture. Never use acid-based cleaners, which can damage the surface beyond repair.
Can the furniture handle bathroom humidity?
Yes. Thanks to Aqua Protect, VitrA furniture surfaces resist moisture and direct contact with water, and the premium MDF (VitrA Premium Durability) withstands changes in temperature and humidity without cracking. VitrA still recommends ventilating the bathroom regularly.

How much weight can a wall-hung cabinet carry?
According to VitrA, wall-hung furniture fitted correctly carries up to 70 kg. The type of wall matters too, so check with our showroom for your model and wall.
Does every washbasin fit every cabinet?
Not always. For most ranges VitrA designs the cabinet and the washbasin to match, and many cabinets in our catalogue are sold with their basin. Check any other combination with our showroom.

Why do mirror edges darken, and how should I clean a mirror?
According to VitrA, acid-based cleaners darken mirror edges, including the vapour they give off when other surfaces in the bathroom are cleaned. Clean the mirror with warm soapy water and a damp cotton cloth, then dry it. The multi-layer protective coating of VitrA mirrors (VitrA Premium Glass) protects the edges from corrosion.

How much energy does the mirror's LED lighting use?
The Smart LED lighting built into VitrA mirrors is energy-efficient and uses considerably less electricity than traditional lighting. It imitates natural daylight, so you see colours accurately, and it is protected from moisture for use in the bathroom.

What water pressure do VitrA products need?
VitrA recommends a water pressure of 0.5 to 10 bar for its products to work smoothly. If your pressure is higher, fit a pressure reducer during installation.
What should be checked before installation?
According to VitrA, the plumbing must be flushed before installation, and the hot and cold water must be connected correctly, or the product, especially a thermostatic one, will not work. If you use well water, VitrA recommends having it analysed first.
Can I install a tap myself?
Some taps are easy to install: with the V-SuperFix system a tap is fitted on the basin in 15 seconds, by hand, without any tools. Minimax taps are one example. In other cases we recommend our installation service.
